Take Stock of Your Life: Back to Basics

Are you lost in the drama of life—or “maya” again?  I wonder how I got lost in the illusions when I think I know better. I want to stay in the happiness I felt before as Oneness. But instead I again feel suffering and need to reconnect to spirit, to God, to who I really am. Does this sound familiar to you too?

The simple answer to getting back to what’s real: Stop and realize that it is a simple matter, get back to the basics again.

“A wise man, recognizing that the world is but an illusion, does not act as if it is real, so he escapes the suffering.”–Buddha

How to get back to basics:

Focus on the things that bring you joy—family, beauty, service or whatever is in front of you that you love. Joy is our natural state of being and “God is love”.

Express your gratitude. Tell people you love them. Say “thank you” to those who provide service for you and connect with them visually and with a smile. Also make a list of 7 things that you are grateful for right now—search for something you may have overlooked before.

Talk to yourself to affirm what you want for yourself. Repeat an affirmations that uplift you from what is troubling you. For example: I AM love in action, I AM at peace with the way life unfolds for me, or I know that everything happens as it is meant to for the greatest good. Say it over and over until your brain accepts it as the truth.

Remind yourself of what is really most important to you. Get refocused on what really matters and “don’t sweat the small stuff”. Look at the big picture and elevate yourself above the difficulties.

Connect directly with the divine—say a prayer, meditate, call on an Angel, get out in nature, sing praise to heaven, do anything that brings you closer to source whatever that means to you.

Make it interesting for yourself. This process of reconnecting with higher consciousness will happen over and over again. Sometimes it feels like you are starting over again too many times and it may get boring or feel too much like work. Try a new discipline; there are many ways to enlightenment.

And remember the words of Lao Tzu:

“There are many paths to enlightenment. Be sure to take one with a heart.”
